ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – This weekend’s float party in St. Pete Beach turned out to be more flop than flip. Rapper Forgiato Blow had said 18,000 fans were expected but only around 2,500 showed up.
“We definitely want to have the beach clean; we don’t want to have the beach dirty. They can’t compare us to Miami, Floatopia. We aren’t Miami. They need to give the city a chance to come out here and have a good day,” Forgiato Blow said Sunday morning.
Blow claimed he didn’t need a permit for the party, which ended up being held on a public section of the beach.
Mayor Maria Lowe saw things differently and was upset when she heard the rules were being defied and the party would go on.
It ended up going off with little commotion, wrapping up around 6 p.m. Sunday.
“The reason it went off … without a hitch is because of the efforts of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. They had an extensive presence … Those 2,500 people were in a space very densely packed, about half the size of a football field,” Lowe said.
Now that the sand has settled, city leaders have turned their focus to examining and changing the codes and statutes in place to figure out how to better regulate these types of gatherings in the future.
“I am very much looking forward to … reviewing our permitting process as a whole to make sure that we have the right things in place to respond to this appropriately,” Lowe said.
No final decisions regarding the party permitting process were made at Tuesday’s city commission meeting.WHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON RIGHT NOW:
