TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (WFLA) — Moms Amanda Simmons and Benita Brown are upset after they watched fight videos. Ten students were arrested Tuesday, including their daughters, after fights broke out at Tarpon Springs High School.

Both moms said their children have been the targets of bullying and were only protecting themselves. “Faulting my child for defending herself of a situation that you’ll could have easily avoided for her,” Simmons said. “No, you’ll need to be held accountable for that.”

Her daughter, Mikayla, said bullies tried to go after sister when she jumped in to stop them.

“I shouldn’t have been arrested because my mom told (you all). She kept us out of school for three days in one week because she didn’t want us there. It was five girls at that school that wanted to jump me at one point,” Mikayla Simmons said.

Brown said the school resource officer warned something might happen to her daughter. The mom said more could have done more to prevent it.

“SRO officer come to her and tell her to watch her and her sister’s back; ‘I hear that someone wants to fight you guys,’ and walked away,” Brown said.

The mom told News Channel 8 her daughter was ambushed moments later.

Students called it “fight week,” but campus was calm Wednesday with extra patrol officers.

District officials said bullying is not tolerated and many of those students are home on three-day suspensions. They also have to take anger management courses.

“We took a variety of action. We separated students, offered counseling and took disciplinary action,” Lisa Wolf with the Pinellas County School District said.

Suspended students are expected back at school next week. Mikayla fears the same girls will attempt to fight her when she returns. She said threats have already been made on social media.WHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON RIGHT NOW:
