KENNETH CITY, Fla. (WFLA) – A 20-year-old Tampa Bay area man is behind bars following his arrest Sunday night for his alleged role in the death of a Kenneth City teenager.
Tyler M. Johnson is being held without bond at the Pinellas County Jail. He is facing one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.
According to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office report, 19-year-old Sean McCasland died Sunday morning from injuries sustained when Johnson ran him over with his pick-up truck. The incident occurred just before 11 a.m. near the intersection of 49th Avenue North and 61st Lane North in Kenneth City.
Investigators say McCasland got into a verbal altercation with Johnson in front of his residence in the 4800 block of 61st Lane North. Johnson was behind the wheel of a Ford F250 pick-up truck when the dispute started.
At some point during the argument McCasland jumped onto the hood of the vehicle. Johnson attempted to drive away as McCasland hung onto the driver side door, according to witnesses.
When Johnson made a westbound turn onto 49th Ave. North, McCasland fell off. Investigators say Johnson stopped initially, but drove away, running over the victim with the left rear tires of the truck.
McCasland was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.
Detectives collected evidence from the scene and spoke to several witnesses. They identified Johnson as a suspect and located him and the truck. He was arrested without incident just after 8 p.m.
Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.WHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON RIGHT NOW:
