TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Our 8 On Your Side investigation into missing or damaged diamond wedding rings from Kay or Zales Jewelers has hit a nerve with women across the country.
In addition to the dozens of missing jewels uncovered in Tampa Bay, women from other states now called 8 On Your Side for help, too. One of them is Kassie Herron. She now has her diamond wedding ring back from Kay Jewelers, but she’s afraid to put it back on her finger.
“My underneath crown of my engagement ring is burnt,” Herron said. “We’ve taken it to other jewelers, and they’ve told me the diamonds in my main stone of my engagement ring are ready to fall out at any time.”
That’s really scary, she said, considering those diamonds were fine when she sent the ring to Kay’s for repairs. Kay Jewelers sent off her engagement ring and was supposed to connect it to her wedding bands. But something else happened.
“The customized jeweler decided instead of connecting the pieces on each side to my engagement ring, he bent them,” Herron said.
Store staff at Kay Jewelers was no help, corporate was no help and so she took to the internet and found 8 On Your Side’s “Better Call Behnken” investigation.
For more than a year, 8 on Your Side has investigated missing and damaged rings from the same company. Last week, we told you about Theresa Austin in Sarasota. She turned to us when her ring disappeared. She says someone from corporate called the next day and said they found her ring, but it is damaged. The ring was not damaged when Austin took it in for routine cleaning and polishing. She said the company is offering to try to fix it and would be willing to give her a new ring if she is unhappy with that work.
“I don’t know what to do,” she said. “I just want my ring back.”
Meanwhile, another woman in California reached out to 8 On Your Side to say her ring is missing, and corporate told her they don’t know where it is.
Tampa Police are investigating more than 50 pieces of missing jewelry in Tampa Bay, but many customers are calling for a national investigation.WHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON
