(WFLA) – A News Channel 8 viewer shared the video of hail near his home in Polk City Sunday afternoon after a line of storms and showers rolled through Tampa Bay area.
The storms started after 2 p.m. The thunderstorm warnings were issued for Hillsborough and Polk counties, special weather statements for the Sunday afternoon were issued for Pasco, Hernando and Highlands.
WFLA Storm Team 8 Chief Meteorologist Steve Jerve said that the storms would continue moving south warning about possible street flooding in the area.
HCSO Public Information Officer Larry McKinnon tweeted that high winds had blown tree limbs and other debris on the westbound lanes of the Le Roy Selmon Expressway in Tampa. A box truck overturned on the expressway. It is unclear if the debris or the storms caused the crash.
Northbound lanes of the expressway were also detoured at exit 4 onto Platt Street after a crash.
In Floral City, several trees were downed by the storm, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. According to CCSO, there were five trees down: one fell on a vehicle and two trees fell into an apartment half way down Moonrise Lane. Two people were in the vehicle. They walked away with only minor injuries. Fire Rescue and deputies responded to the scene. Reportedly, power is out in the area as well.
A Travel Advisory has been issued for the Sunshine Skyway Bridge due to high winds. The bridge is open in both directions but drivers are advised to use caution.
