NEW YORK (AP) – GLAAD and Interscope Records have joined forces to release a song featuring Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Mary J. Blige in tribute to the victims of last month’s massacre in Orlando, Florida.
“Hands” was released Wednesday on iTunes. It also includes Selena Gomez, Imagine Dragons, Juanes, Pink, RuPaul, Meghan Trainor and Gwen Stefani.
Sales from the song will benefit the Equality Florida Pulse Victims Fund, the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida and GLAAD. As of Wednesday morning, donations on the Equality Florida Pulse Victims Fund GoFundMe page had reached more than $6.9 million.
Jason Derulo, Kacey Musgraves, Prince Royce, Nate Ruess, Adam Lambert, Tyler Glenn of Neon Trees, Mary Lambert and the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles also perform on the song.
The June 12 shooting at the Pulse nightclub left 49 people dead and dozens injured. Tampa Bay area residents were among the victims. Two young Polk county women were slain and a former Largo resident was among those killed. Edward “Eddie” Sotomayor, Jr., 34, of Sarasota was also killed.
Injured shooting survivors gave dramatic details about the horrific shootings inside the nightclub. One victim said the shooter walked through the nightclub and shot victims who were already dead on the floor to make sure they were dead. The tragedy prompted people to help the victims in any way they could. The City of Orlando offered free gravesites for Pulse victims and a local church offered free services.
The City of Orlando began releasing documents related to the Pulse shooting on June 28. JetBlue offered free Orlando flights to shooting victims’ families and domestic partners.
