PORT ORANGE, Fla. – An 8-year-old boy died Friday after he accidentally shot himself in the chest in Port Orange, police said.
Port Orange police said the shooting was reported about 11:45 a.m. at a home on Hudson Lane. Police said the boy and his 12-year-old brother were in the home with their great-grandfather when the child was shot.
The child was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach but did not survive.
It is unclear how the child got hold of the gun, police said.
