Venus Williams may have been shut out of the women’s singles and doubles competition, but she could still earn gold in mixed doubles alongside countryman Rajeev Ram.
The team won their semifinal match on Saturday against the Indian team of Mirza/Bopanana. In lieu of a third set, mixed doubles competitions have a tiebreak that goes to 10; the American duo won 2-6, 6-2, 10-3.
Her wide smile and high jumps indicate that the illness that sapped her strength in the other two competitions has gone.
The mixed doubles final will occur Sunday. Williams and Ram could play Americans Jack Sock and Bethanie Mattek-Sands or the Czech team of Hradecka/Stepanek.
