BOSTON (WFLA/WCVB) – According to a new study, the flu shot will not cause pregnant women to have miscarriages.

The study was presented to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wednesday.

The findings counter the outcry from groups that oppose many vaccine recommendations.

Health officials actually go a step further, saying vaccinations are not only safe, but necessary during pregnancy.

Current CDC guidelines specifically emphasize how important the flu vaccine is to pregnant women.

Researchers say it can protect the mother’s health and also protect the newborn baby from getting the flu.
