CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) — Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue were on scene of an injured bald eagle that was perched in the middle of Countryside Boulevard adjacent to Westfield Countryside Mall Wednesday morning.

It appeared the eagle had been struck by a car while trying to feed on or grab a dead animal in the road, police say.

Police and firefighters blocked off two lanes of northbound Countryside Boulevard, keeping traffic away from the injured bird.

The eagle then hopped off the side of the road, where it later was captured by a wildlife rescue specialist with help from police officers and firefighters.

It will be cared for by Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife.
