BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) –- It’s a stinky situation at the Cypress Trace Apartments in Brandon after piles of garbage have have filled a parking lot.
Residents told News Channel 8 the garbage the dumpster became so full, workers brought a new one in. That hasn’t solved the problem. Now, that dumpster is overflowing.
Trash is everywhere, and residents turned to 8 On Your Side. News Channel 8 saw mountains of garbage flooding the parking lot.
Residents have to hold their breath. “It’s really bad,” Rebecca Moore said.
Moore has lived at Cypress Trace for a little less than a year and says even though there’s always been a problem, it’s never been this bad.
“The trash,” she said. “It’s horrible.”
It’s so bad Moore asked her mother for help. “I got no response at all, and that is what I think upset me more,” Moore’s mom, Sue Racke, said. “If you had just said to us, ‘Hey, we know we’re having issues.'”
8 On Your Side left several messages for local management, Cornerstone Properties, and with the corporate owners. News Channel 8 also went to the leasing office. The door happened to be locked, even though a sign clearly said the office was open. 8 On Your Side visited during business hours and saw people inside.
A maintenance man asked us what we were doing but wouldn’t provide any answers. Moments later, a woman from the leasing office opened the locked door.
“We’d really like to discuss it but we can’t,” she told News Channel 8. “We told you that yesterday so you guys need to leave.”
“I’m asking you to leave,” she added. “We are trying to deal with the situation.”
8 On Your Side then called the waste management number on the side of the dumpster. A representative said someone from the company or complex had to call to have the trash picked up.
That representative also said another dumpster would be brought to the complex last Friday. Nothing happened on Friday.
“I shouldn’t have to live like this and I shouldn’t have to complain and I shouldn’t have to go to you,” Moore told News Channel 8.
For now, residents will have to wait until someone picks up the trash.
