TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – When it comes to the fight over Amendment Two in Florida each side spent their Saturdays preparing for Election Day in different ways. In Tampa, at Canna Day at Embassy Suites Westshore in Tampa, it was classroom time for entrepreneurs.
“Florida can believe cannabis should be available as a first option not a last resort. So this is just the next time in making sure that every patient who wants to use cannabis has access to it safely and legally,” said Jodi James from the Florida Cannabis Action Network as she and others spent time educating those who want to go into the cannabis industry if Amendment Two passes Tuesday. “There a lot of people who are interested in finding out what’s next for the cannabis businesses,” said James.
It’s a much different Saturday before election day for mom Lynn Posyton, who spent the day on the side of a Pinellas County road with others holding signs saying “Vote No on 2”. “We are concerned for our beautiful state of Florida that 2000 pot shops are projected to hit the entire state. We are well aware and we know this is going to be a California style roll out, which means commercialization by another name,” said Poyston while holding a sign,
“Smoke weed, that’s what it’s about,” said Poyston.
If you ask the two groups Amendment Two is one of the most important issues facing Florida voters on the ballot Tuesday. And while medical marijuana has more support than ever, it needs more than 60 percent of the vote to pass.
“This is all about the patients,” said James.
“My biggest fear is more availability means more use, that is a mathematical equation,” contends Poyston.
