ST PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The St. Pete Police found the man who snatched a purse from an elderly woman outside a St. Pete Publix store.
32-year-old Benjamin L. White was arrested for the crime.
Police said while White was in custody and in handcuffs, he attempted to run from the arresting detectives. He was charged with vehicle burglary and escape.The incident happened around 7 p.m. last Tuesday at the Publix located at 3030 54th Ave. S.
A St. Petersburg Police Department spokesperson said the man stole the 88-year-old woman’s purse while she was in the driver’s seat of her car.
Police said the man was wearing a grey baseball cap with a brown bill, a dark sweater, dark pants and black shoes with white stripes.
He left Publix in a white Prius.
