SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound after a fight at Siesta Key Beach Monday afternoon, according to deputies.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said they were called to Beach Access three around 4 p.m. for a fight involving at least 10 people.
Several gunshots were heard they said, and when deputies got there they found one woman with minor injuries.
According to deputies, more gunshots were heard a short time later near Avenida Messina and Ocean Boulevard, but no victims were found there.
It is unknown if the two incidents are related.
Dylan Peterson saw the aftermath when he walked out of his beach house.
“They were yelling, screaming, had this guy at gunpoint arresting him out of his car,” Peterson said. “There was a lot of shouting and a lot of commotion.”
People who live on Siesta Key say they’ve noticed a difference in the crowds lately. They want something to change.
“They’re going to have to step it up here. I don’t really see a lot of officers within the village a lot,” one Siesta Key resident said. “It’s just crowded and heat and tempers flare. So it’s a it’s a challenge for law enforcement.”
The shooting is leaving many people in this community feeling uneasy.
“It scares me to think about all the families and stuff that I hear, all the kids, people trying to enjoy their vacations,” Peterson said. “I mean, we’re a little more on edge now.”
The investigation is ongoing.
