PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the driver behind a fatal hit-and-run.

According to the sheriff’s office, a person was run over by an SUV in the parking lot of Dance & Gymnastics Academy of Tampa in the Venezia Court area of Land O’ Lakes.

Detectives say the SUV appears to be a black, newer model Jeep Wrangler.

Carolyn Pinkston says her friend, who she’s known since he was a child, and who she just moved in with, was the one hit and killed.

“Everybody liked him, he was a good person,” Pinkston said.

Pinkston says they drove down from Ocala Monday with two other people and made their way to the area. They were all in the same Jeep. She says at one point she separated from the group. When she walked back towards the parking lot that’s when she made the discovery.

“I don’t know what happened, he was laying on the ground when I came around the corner that’s all I can say,” Pinkston said.

The parking lot was once was home to The Dance and Gymnastics Academy of Tampa. People inside say it’s now the future home of a church.

Pinkston says she’s not sure why her friend and the two other people stopped there.

“I couldn’t think of nothing to do, just in shock, I’m probably still in shock,” Pinkston said.
