ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – St. Petersburg police have identified two victims who were shot and killed while sitting in their SUV and say their killings do not appear to be random.

The deceased were identified as Jacqueline Yvette Green, 48, of St. Petersburg, and her passenger, Ashland Cleve Jarrett, 45, of Bradenton.

Investigators said Green and Jarrett were sitting inside her Toyota RAV4 in her driveway at her home at 6490 22nd Street South, around 1:45 a.m. on Thursday.

Neighbors called 911 when they heard multiple shots fired.

Next door resident, Charles Mault said police knocked on his door around 2:30 a.m.

“This street is normally a very quiet street,” said Mault. “It’s disturbing to know that we had a murder, two murders, right next to us.”

A friend of Jarrett told News Channel 8 he was a kind person.

“We can’t believe it, you know. He was a very caring person. He was very warm and generous,” he said.

The friend’s truck had been parked next to Green’s SUV.

Police wouldn’t let him remove his vehicle until the crime scene was clear. It’s unclear if he stayed at the home or was visiting.

Jarrett died in the car and Green at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, a police detective said.

“Everyone is in shock right now. You know, so we’re just trying to figure out who would do something as terrible as this and why,” said the friend.

Police have not confirmed why the two were in Green’s car.

Police are looking for a dark-color Toyota Camry that sped away from the scene.  Witnesses said a person jumped into that car as it headed down the street.

A motive is unclear, but cops aren’t treating the crime as a random act of violence.

A person inside the home at the time of the shooting wasn’t hurt.  That person is talking with detectives.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
