HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Hillsborough County has a new tool called the Buffalo Turbine that will help get rid of mosquitoes.
The new technology will be used in residential and commercial districts in Hooker’s Point, Gibsonton and Apollo Beach.
The Buffalo Turbine is actually a truck that uses a 100-gallon tank and turbine technology to spray non-toxic, environmentally safe liquid larvicide in both residential and commercial areas.
The system uses a powerful turbine sprayer to apply larvicide to areas that are not reachable by other spray units. It can reach distances of up to 150 feet and can penetrate through thick vegetation and trees.
“It can actually get into all these hidden habitats like tires and buckets that are practically impossible for crews to go yard to yard, neighborhood to neighborhood and find these breeding grounds,” says Daniel Markowski with Vector Disease Control International.
The Buffalo Turbine is just one of the new tools Hillsborough County is using to combat mosquitoes.
