From elementary schools to libraries and assisted living facilities, the “Soccer Dogs” make their way all over Florida and their only goal is to have fun playing with their opponents. Now the talented two collies have scored a couple of matches at Tampa’s Primrose School of South Tampa summer camp.
The collies are members of a team that play dog soccer at public, private and corporate events. Their mission is to raise awareness to let people know that high-activity dogs can be great adoptable pets.
The soccer dogs will be playing in front of kids at Tampa’s Primrose School of South Tampa summer camp.
“This is a 10-week camp for our campers and they range from six to ten years of age and each week has a special theme and the theme this week is ‘on the ball’. So for that reason we brought the soccer dogs in to play soccer,” said Community Relations Manager of Primrose School of South Tampa Mart Pieper.
The games were played inside the classroom and once the 12 x 12-foot carpet was rolled out, two collies name Honey and Bek couldn’t wait to show off their soccer skills.
First, the girls got to play a match and the ball was flying all over the room as the kids tried to keep the dogs from scoring. Then it was the boys turn and they couldn’t keep the ball on the carpet, but if points were awarded for having fun then the pint-size campers reached their goal.
Later in the day, campers got a visit from the Tampa Bay Rowdies where they got to play soccer with the team and ask questions about becoming better soccer players.
Next week’s theme is ‘Behind the Curtain’. Campers will be entertained with a puppet show by Jerry Bickel and then they will get to make their own handmade puppets.
