A Pasco County man is facing DUI charges after he crashed his car into a home early Monday morning.
Troopers responded to Bartelt Road in Holiday at 4:15 a.m.
According to FHP, Derrick Roland Zio, 28, was driving eastbound on Bartelt Road, when he was approaching the intersection on Knollwood Dr. at a high rate of speed.
Troopers said Zio lost control of the vehicle and struck a wooden utility pole.
Zio continued across Bartelt Road, in a northeast direction and collided with the home at the intersection.
Homeowner, Phillip Ferranto, said he woke up to a loud bang.
Zio’s Mazda smashed through the front of the house.
Troopers said Zio fled the scene on foot, but was located and detained by Pasco Sheriff’s Deputies a few blocks away.
Authorities arrested Zio for DUI, leaving the scene of a crash, reckless driving and felony drug charges after locating large amounts of marijuana and cash.
