NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WESH) — An Edgewater police officer has been arrested and charged with battery, according to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department.

The arrest occurred on Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach, according to the arrest report, at Peanuts, a restaurant and sports bar.

According to the arrest report, a man claiming to be a police officer approached a woman who was singing karaoke at Peanuts. The man, according to the report, put his hands on the woman’s hips. The woman reportedly told the man she was married, and not interested in his advances.

An altercation ensued between the woman’s husband, and the suspect. According to the police report from the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, the suspect, who claimed to be an officer, punched the woman’s husband multiple times, before he allegedly stated, “I’m a cop, what are you gonna do about it?”

Fire rescue crews and police arrived to the scene, and the suspect was arrested and charged with battery, the police report said. He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.
