On the eve of the debut of surfing as an Olympic sport, we speak with Vicky Durand about her new book book, “Wave Woman: The Life and Struggles of a Surfing Pioneer”, which tells the incredible story of her mother, Betty, the first professional female surfer– who took up the sport in her 40’s during a vacation in Hawaii and went on to become a champion.
