Richard and Linda Sobkiewicz want to know one thing – what is going on with their mail?  The Largo veteran and his disabled wife are on a mission to get it back, but they’re running into problems.

And, they’re not alone.

Many others at Down Yonder Village, a mobile home park in Pinellas County, are facing the same mail delivery difficulties.

“I would just like to get my mail, or at least have it available,” said Richard. “It’s not a good situation.” His wife, Linda, echoed his sentiment. “Well, I’d like to get my mail,’ she said with a smile. “We don’t want to be mean about it.”

Getting the mail has, indeed, turned into a mess.

Their delivery has been disrupted, they maintain, for months at Down Yonder Village, affecting at least 20 residents. Their mailboxes are now marked with red dots, which means – no mail is delivered there. “It doesn’t make any sense. How can you say you can’t get your mail at your place of residence,’ said Richard.

Residents claim their mailboxes, at a central delivery site on property, have been broken for months.  They also tell WFLA that management hasn’t done anything to fix the problem. Instead, the mail has been delivered to the mobile home park front office, as of late.

On Friday, residents got the news no one wanted.

Tenants were told their mail would now have to be picked up at a post office more than twenty minutes away in traffic. “Well, you know, it’s just not a good situation,” Richard explained. Linda is disabled and receives her medications in the mail. So, without daily delivery, her health is at risk.

Then, when she called the postal service, she says she got more bad news that left her and many others disappointed and desperate. “The big thing is, if it’s not rectified within 30 days, we’re going to start sending your mail back,’ she explained.

8 on your Side contacted the corporate offices in Chicago that own Down Yonder Village. The following statement was released to WFLA regarding the broken mailboxes.

“Thank you for your inquiry about Down Yonder. We have been working with the post office to ensure mail delivery for our residents while the mailbox station is replaced. Regrettably, due to a miscommunication, the mail was not delivered today. We anticipate delivery to be resumed tomorrow. In the meantime, we have submitted our proposal to the post office for a replacement mailbox station. We look forward to the installation of the new station as soon as possible.”

Residents just want their mail back, and they don’t want to drive through traffic to get it. “We just want this fixed,” said one resident, who asked to remain anonymous.
