Stranded patients unacceptable for Florida lawmaker

No Medicaid recipient should ever miss a doctor appointment because they can’t get a ride.

But Medicaid patients are complaining to 8 On Your Side that transportation companies, paid with public money, are routinely late in getting them to their medical appointments, and in some cases forget about them altogether.

State Senator Jeff Brandes of Pinellas county believes Medicaid transportation is a statewide problem.

It’s unacceptable for people to be waiting for hours and hours after treatment, before treatment or missing treatments because the drivers never showed up,” Senator Brandes said.

Medicaid transportation is an issue Senator Brandes has heard about for years.

How can we make this program more affordable for taxpayers and provide more options to Medicaid recipients so that no one ever goes without a ride?
