VALRICO, Fla. (WFLA) – Buckhorn Preserve has beautiful trees, but they come at a cost – buckling, heaving sidewalks. Residents want Hillsborough County to fix them.
“We don’t want anyone else to get hurt, and they are dragging their feet,” said Michael Miraglia.
He and his wife, Cheryl, put up a makeshift barrier to warn others. Cheryl tripped and fell, breaking her left shoulder last May.
“They sent an inspector initially, to see if they could grind it,” Miraglia said. “They can’t grind it, because it’s heaved and they got to replace it.”
They say they were told the work would be “expedited” but more than a year later, nothing has happened.
Their next door neighbor, Joanne Costa, tripped over the same sidewalk and broke her shoulder, too.
“I tripped and I went flying to the grass,” Costa said.
There are buckling sidewalks throughout the neighborhood.
A spokesman for Hillsborough County said the county reviewed the problem again after calls from Better Call Behnken, and they decided to fix the sidewalk the women tripped over.
We were told the work will be finished by the end of June.
